About Shortmoves
We celebrate the short film
Shortmoves is an International Festival for Short Movies, and has been an annual event taking place in Halle/Saale since 2001. The city is well known not only for its Handel Festival, but lying within the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, Halle is also a centre for media studies, and it has an extremely vibrant cultural scene. Key cultural centers for a city participating in such a creative, inventive and international arena are:
- The Burg Giebichenstein (University of Art and Design)
- The MMZ (Multimedia Centre of Central Germany)
- The Werkleitz Centre for Media Arts
- The Radio Broadcast Centre of MDR (a public radio station)
- The Studio Halle
Halle’s exciting cultural diversity is also reflected in the very intense and alternative scenes of theatre and repertory cinema. The Shortmoves International Festival is strongly linked to these themes, and from them the City celebrates the short movie. In doing so, we are asking filmmakers of all ages and nations, be they professionals, students, or lay people to send us their short movies.
Most crucial above all is your passion for your films, in addition to the technology used. There are no boundaries or restrictions to theme or content. Your film(s) must not exceed a running time of 15 minutes. We are very interested in the challenge of putting together condensed narratives, and we are looking for focused tales, inventive stories, or unusual narratives. In a nutshell – every year Shortmoves looks for your best short movies within those simple, given rules.
