Philosophy
The Shortmoves Film Festival’s primary aim is to support „The Short Film as a Creative Process“. Shortmoves gives the same attention to every single short movie. For each of these works of art, there is no difference whether they have been made with professional equipment, or with very simple resources. The core focal point remains the presentation of unusual ideas, the levels of passion shown, and the personal engagement of the filmmakers.
Shortmoves also likes to respond to the cultural aspects of film-making. It is no accident that the festival has found it’s home in Halle (Saale). This is the largest centre for media in Saxony-Anhalt, and it is the perfect home for just such a festival because of the key cultural centers which the city has in the creative, inventive and international acting arenas:
- The Burg Giebichenstein (University of Art and Design)
- The MMZ (Multimedia Centre of Central Germany)
- The Werkleitz Centre for Media Arts
- The Radio Broadcast Centre of MDR (a public radio station)
- The Studio Halle
Thus there are potentially huge numbers of both filmmakers and festival visitors in and around Halle, and the Shortmoves Film Festival would like to extend an invitation to everyone who is interested in being involved, either by making a film, or by coming along to see them.
We appreciate and hope for contributions from international participants. This ensures that we will continue to ‘look beyond our own noses‘. Further, it encourages communication between all ambitious, imaginative and impassioned filmmakers from many backgrounds. We see the festival as inspiration for own projects as well as a great stage for networking. Hence, the event is not just a presentation of short movies, but it is also a meeting point for creative people.
The Festival acts as a catalyst for the film and media sector in and around Halle. It would be great if this energy could be tapped to provide a launchpad for new events relating to short films.
